Library Media Center Information and Guidelines

Vision

The vision of the Mission High School Library Media Program is to support the teachers and students of Mission High School by providing access to current, adequate, and appropriate information resources, and to ensure that all students, teachers, and staff are effective users of ideas and information.

Services

1. Provide instruction in the use of the library resources, materials and equipment.
2. Provide help with assignments and projects.
3. Provide recreational reading and interest materials.
4. Provide a welcoming place for study and reading.

Resources

1. Over 20,000 books for your use.
2. An extensive reference collection to use for research including encyclopedias, atlases, dictionaries, almanacs and general reference on many of your classroom subjects.
3. A collection of books in Spanish and in Chinese.
4. Graphic novels, books for easy reading, folk tales, and paperbacks.
5. 67 periodicals for you to read while in the library media center.
6. Career and college materials.
7. Health & Wellness materials

8. Access to subscription databases for research and high quality information.
9. 25 research computers with Internet access, Online catalog, Inspiration software, Scholastic Reading Inventory, and Microsoft Office Professional 2003
10. 3 Word Processing computers connected to a network printer.
11. Attached teaching computer lab with 25 student computers, a teacher workstation with an LCD projector and a network printer.
12. A 24-7 Library Web Collection/Site available all day and every day from any computer to serve all of your non-print research needs.

*Lunch: Everyday
*After School: 3:15-5:00 Except Wednesdays 2:00-3:30
*Closed after school on Fridays

*Tutoring Program: 3:15-5:00 Every Day

Procedures

1. All students may check out books. Your names are in the computer already. However, if you have your I.D. card, checking out books is much easier and speedier.
2. You may check out up to 3 books at a time.
Please allow time to check out your books. If you wait until the end of the period, you may be late for class.
3. The check out period is 2 weeks.
4. You may renew books after 2 weeks.
5. There are no overdue fines.
6. If you have an overdue book, you may not check out more library materials until the overdue books are returned or paid for.
7. All lost items must be paid for.
8. Reference materials and periodicals may not be checked out. However, you may make up to 3 copies free of charge from these materials if you need to.
9. To use a computer, sign in with your name and the number of the computer you will be using.

Rules

1. Enter the library quietly and in an orderly manner.
2. During class time, you must enter the library with a pass from your teacher and specific work to complete. Show the pass to the librarian.
3. Do not bring any food or drinks into the library. If you have food, please put it into your backpack.
4. Speak quietly at all times in the library.
5. Before using a computer, please sign in with your name and the number of the computer you will be using.
6. In order to print, please ask permission from Ms. Powers or Mr. Walsh. You may only print from a Word document in the word processing room. Do not access the Internet or email in the word processing room.
7. All items taken from the library must be checked out.
